Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

MRI-Magnetic Resonance ImagingFort Sanders West Diagnostic Center, a division of Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, puts patients first. Offering a variety of diagnostic procedures, we deliver care you can depend on in a convenient and comfortable location from professionals you can trust. When you require further attention outside of your doctor’s office, Fort Sanders West Diagnostic Center will work hard to ensure your comfort and ease.

Accredited by the American College of Radiology, Fort Sanders West Diagnostic Center is committed to providing the very latest in MRI services.

MRI-Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Fort Sanders West Diagnostic Center offers exceptional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) services using GE’s Signa Infinity 1.5T TwinSpeed scanner. This MRI system delivers high quality medical images in everything from scans of bones and joints to advanced studies of the brain, heart, and blood vessels.

Comfort
The TwinSpeed makes MRI exams easier for adults and children with Quiet Technology, which reduces acoustic noise levels by 40 percent compared to traditional MRI systems. The TwinSpeed also has a large opening (nearly two feet in diameter) that makes scans more accommodating for larger patients and people who experience claustrophobia.

Speed
Patient scans are faster using the TwinSpeed as opposed to traditional MRI systems. Due to the spacious opening and Quiet Technology, patients are less likely to be startled during critical moments. As a result, exams can proceed without interruption, reducing the need for rescanning.

What to Expect From Your Procedure
Prior to your magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam, you will be screened for any metal implants and/or a pacemaker by your MRI technologist and then change into a gown. After you’ve changed, you’ll be placed on the MRI table and given ear plugs so that the tapping sound the MRI machine produces won’t disturb you. The table will then move into the MRI scanner and you will be given a call button to push if you should need the tech while the test is being performed. Based on the examination your doctor has ordered, your test may take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes. It is very important not to move during the procedure. Your exam results will be read by the radiologist and a report will be sent to your physician usually within 24 hours (some exceptions may apply).

Personal Attention
Providing personal attention is a top priority. Our caring and highly trained staff will answer any questions you may have concerning your test or any of our advanced diagnostic services.

Preparations

  • Please leave jewelry and unnecessary valuables at home.
  • Be sure to tell the technologist if you are pregnant.

* Your doctor should provide procedure-specific preparation instructions for you to follow prior to your test. If you have any questions or would like more information about magnetic resonance imaging, please call us at 865-531-5400.
